What To Wear and Pack for Japan in September

We visit Japan often since our family lives there and it’s been a while since we visited them in September. We were expecting cooler temperatures; however, we were surprised at how hot it was, especially in Osaka.

Of course it’s nothing like their summer’s hot and humid temperatures, but there were a couple of days where it felt like it. The temperatures were in the high eighties during the day and in the seventies at night.

Here is what we wore and packed for our days spent in Osaka, Japan.

Travel Outfits

Our parents live in Narita, but we also wanted to visit our little brother who lives in Osaka. We spent some time in Narita before we took the bullet train down to Osaka. We wanted to wear clothes that were comfy since we would be traveling for half a day through the train stations and local streets.

Mint Velvet indigo pleat front jeans

Quince ultra stretch high rise pants

Crystal wore her new favorite pair of denim from Mint Velvet. These indigo pleat front jeans have a high rise and are made with almost 100% cotton. We like to have a bit of stretch in our denim for comfort and these have just the right amount of 1% elastane.

The jeans were paired with Mint Velvet’s soft cotton extended shoulder t-shirt. We both love this style of t-shirt as the short sleeves with extended shoulders add an extra stylish touch.

I wore my go-to ultra stretch high rise pants from Quince and paired it with a cropped top. The Quince pants are on the thicker side, which I wanted for the long train rides. I wouldn’t wear these pants in the summer, but for this time of year it was perfectly fine on cloudy days.

Generally, women in Japan don’t like to show a lot of skin, so wearing just a crop top can feel a little bare, so I threw on a very light blazer over it. When it got a bit too warm, I would just wear the blazer over my shoulders and surprisingly it stayed put even when I was walking around the busy train stations with my suitcase. .

Sightseeing Outfits

Crystal packed a variety of outfits from Quince. Their styles are classy, contemporary, and made with great material. The best part is that their price point is very affordable. She wore Quince’s vintage wash tencel button front dress when we explored Osaka’s famous Dotonbori. It’s the perfect everyday dress that is soft and breezy. Our favorite feature of this dress is the hidden clasp where you can adjust the length to your liking. So for days that require a little modesty you can adjust accordingly.

Another outfit Crystal wore from Quince was the linen short sleeve shirt and linen maxi skirt. This was such an airy elevated attire that looked so effortless. The lightweight and breathable fabric keeps you cool and chic and the flowy silhouette gives a relaxed sophisticated look.

Marcella Clara Dress

I opted to wear the Clara dress from Marcella, which is a classic comfy dress that flatters all shapes. It’s a classic style that can be dressed up or down. I was drawn to the dress's low scoop neckline which is crafted from soft stretchy fabric.

The skirt is 100% cotton and has a side zip, which makes it easy to slip on and off. I added a few accessories like a belt and scarf to add some of my own personality to it. And, yes, this dress has pockets!

Lately, I’ve been into striped tops, so I wore my H&M red striped tank top with my favorite summer denim trousers from J Crew. These denim trousers have a high rise that make your legs look super long. I also love the fabric of these jeans. It’s made with a mix of tencel, cotton, and elastane, which give them a soft stretchy feel with just enough denim structure.

Universal Studios Japan (USJ)

We made it a point to wear our most comfortable clothes for USJ and we both wore our favorite athleisure high-waist pursuit trouser pants from Alo. Not only are these pants the ultimate closet staple, but they are made from a lightweight, stretch-infused fabric that looks super sleek. It’s designed for a loose relaxed fit, which is perfect for all-day theme park activities.

Alo Yoga Trouser Pants

Alo Soft Cropped Top

I paired my bottoms with Alo’s soft cropped top and Crystal wore Mint Velvet’s Paris slogan t-shirt. We would normally put on a trucker hat for days like this where we’ll be out in the sun all day, but USJ has SO many adorable character themed headbands that we couldn’t resist wearing that instead.

Comfy Footwear

You definitely want to wear comfy shoes, since most of your time is spent commuting by foot. We never pack a brand new pair of shoes for our trips to Japan. We make sure that we wear shoes that don’t cause any discomfort.

Both of Crystal’s shoes are from Converse. She wore either the Chuck Taylor All Star Canvas or Converse Pro Blaze Classic Retro ‘90s. Both are super comfy and looked great with her outfits. Converse just has that style that makes it really easy to wear with anything.

Sam Edelman Michaela Mary Jane Flats

I wore my new Sam Edelman Michaela Mary Jane flats for most of my outfits. I only have them in the color black, but am tempted to get another pair in ivory. They are super comfy and have such a feminine style to them that I adore. The great thing about Mary Jane’s is that they pair well with everything from jeans to office wear.

Adidas Samba

For the past couple of years, I have been wearing my Adidas Samba especially when I am traveling. They are super comfy and I love its minimalist style. Thanks to its versatility, they can be worn casual or a bit dressed up with leather or suede garments.

Luggage

Since we were on the go from Narita to Osaka, we needed luggage that would add ease to our travels. We both used our carry-on suitcases from Quince. I have the classic style; whereas Crystal has one of their newer front pocket suitcases. Both carry-on suitcases have an affordable pricepoint that won’t break the bank.

We also carried smaller bags for when we were sightseeing around Osaka. For USJ I carried my new Pacsafe W backpack and Crystal wore her Bandolier Miller bag. For the rest of our time in the big city, I used my Lo & Sons Aoyama bag and Crystal her Nisolo Tote bag

Backpacks with a luggage sleeve are super handy to have and my Pacsafe backpack had this feature. Crystal also had this feature on her Lo & Sons Rowledge backpack that she used on her travel days.

Accessories

To complete our look, we wore a variety of accessories throughout our trip. We both have similar styles when it comes to jewelry these days. Lately, we've been gravitating towards Quince for our accessory fix. What's even more exciting is that Quince offers fine-quality jewelry at incredibly affordable prices, making it easy to indulge in our love for accessorizing without having to worry about budget constraints.
