I'm Back in Hong Kong!
/Growing up, I never had Hong Kong on my list of cities to visit. Being from Japan, I wanted to travel around Europe and never really considered other parts of Asia. Back in 2012 I had an opportunity to live in Hong Kong for six months and was so sad when my time in Hong Kong was up. I fell in love with Hong Kong and knew I would love to go back again.
Finally after three years I got a chance to go back! But this time I was only there for a week. It was a quick trip, but am glad I got a chance to revisit. When I was living there I took tons of photos, but never took any video footage. So this time I made that a priority. I'm so excited to show you my video and how amazing Hong Kong is.
I stayed at the Charterhouse Causeway Bay Hotel which was walking distance from Times Square. I know, it's confusing. Not New York's Times Square, but Hong Kong's Times Square. The hotel is conveniently located next to everything (coffee shops, drug stores, convenient stores, etc.). The customer service was outstanding. Anytime I called the front desk with questions or a request, they would be at my door within five minutes.
The room was tiny, so if you are used to big rooms I wouldn't recommend staying here. It really was a place to just sleep. Each room was equipped with a smart phone for free that you could take with you around the city. Which was great because you would be connected with absolutely no charge! But just make sure you don't lose it because you would end up having to pay full price for the phone if that happens.
When I travel, I like getting from place to place with ease. I hate stressing over how to get somewhere, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. Hong Kong definitely gets a five star rating when it comes to public transportation. It is efficient, convenient, and very reasonably priced. I pretty much used all forms of transportation when I was there. The taxi, MTR (subway system), bus, and tram. And none of it is difficult to figure out.
I got on the subway from Causeway Bay and got off at Central Hong Kong. Central Hong Kong has a ton of shopping, but I skipped that and walked around Antique Street. I love all the street art in Hong Kong especially this Bruce Lee one I came across. I also had time to visit Man Mo Temple, but didn't stay inside for too long. It was extremely hot and muggy, so I was starting to feel a little light headed. It was incredibly hot, muggy, and raining on-and-off that day, so walking around and taking photos was quite the task.
I walked around Central Hong Kong, but didn't get a chance this time to take the star ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai (due to the rainy weather!). The rain started to really pick up mid afternoon, so I decided to walk around the financial district where there were plenty of covered path ways.
The streets in Hong Kong have a lot of stairs and uphill walking, so remember to wear super comfy shoes. And if you don't want to get your shoes dirty, don't wear your favorites or a pair of white ones during the rainy season (April to June).
There is so much to see and do in Hong Kong, from Times Square to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery. I was limited on time during my visit (I only had 2 days to myself to explore), but I was able to squeeze in Central, Causeway Bay, Sheung Wan, and the Financial District.
I personally love the vibe of the fast paced city. It can be overwhelming at first, (Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world), but I love all the chaos. Well, it seems chaotic at first, but once you get used to it, I think it's a beautiful chaos.
