The New and Improved Disney Springs in Florida

Downtown Disney recently changed their name to Disney Springs with a whole bunch of renovations  and we wanted to see all the fun new shops and restaurants they added. Disney Springs is located next to Disney World and it's an outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment complex. There are four distinct areas that include: West Side, the Landing, the Marketplace, and Town Center.

We were most excited about checking out Uniqlo because this is the first Florida location (and the first location in the southeast region of the US) and the store is HUGE at 25,000 square-feet! We love that they added Japanese yukatas and Disney shirts to the store making it a one-of-a-kind Uniqlo store.

Some of the new shops they added include Sprinkles Cupcakes! There are only 16 Sprinkles locations in the US and we're so happy they added one in Orlando. Crystal is obsessed with cupcakes, so naturally, she fell in love with Sprinkles. I mean who doesn't like a bite sized-cake? They even had their signature cupcake ATM!

Of course, we had to stop by the original stores as well, like the Lego Store. We never buy anything at the Lego store, but those Lego sculptures are so impressive! They're always changing it up and creating new ones. We also went inside the Disney store, which is the world’s largest Disney character store, and found this cute Minnie apron and tea set. It was fun being silly and playing house like little kids again. We were just kidding around, but in all seriousness, Candy really wanted that apron. We also stopped by the Star Wars store and the T-rex restaurant to have some fun with the collectible items and dinosaurs.

While we were walking around, we spotted a car boat in the water called the Amphicar. Apparently, Disney Springs is the only place in the world where you can ride in one. We thought it would be cool to check it out, but when we found out the price, we were a little shocked: $125 for a 20-minute ride! Just a tad out of our price range. It's still fun to watch people riding it tho.

For lunch, we ate at the new Asian restaurant, Morimoto Asia. We automatically assumed that this was going to be a Japanese restaurant, since 'Morimoto' is a Japanese name. However, not only do they serve Japanese food, they also serve a variety of other Asian cuisines. We've been hearing great reviews about this place and it's always crowded, so we were pretty excited to see what all the rave was about. The decor inside is awesome with interesting portraits of Asians from around the world. The service was great and the ambience was amazing, but the food was average.

There are tons of shops, restaurants and entertainment to check out at Disney Springs, so you can easily make a full day (or two) out of this visit. If you're staying at Disney World, buses and water taxis operated by Disney Transport provide transportation between Disney Springs and other areas of Walt Disney World.

A few tips tips :

  • The earlier you go, the better! This place gets pretty packed later in the day when people start to leave the Disney parks.

  • Make dining reservations! Expect 1-2 hour wait times if you don't make one.

  • If you get thirsty, the Disney Springs Welcome Center offers free ice cold drinks infused with lemons and limes.

  • Take advantage of their free wifi throughout the Disney Springs area.
