You, Me, and Holy Matcha Green Tea : North Park, San Diego
/Once again, I came across an Instagram account that had me scrolling through their entire feed. Luckily, Holy Matcha is new so the feed wasn't very long, but long enough for me to know I was going to make a trip to this matcha green tea heaven.
Did I evaluate the Yelp reviews to see if this place was even worth going to? No, but I didn't care to. Matcha tea is generally tasty anywhere you go, so I wasn't too worried. I am a sucker for wanting to hang out in attractive spaces while I sip on a drink with a side of pastry.
Holy Matcha opened its doors this month (March 11, 2017) and I immediately fell in love with the interior design. I simply adore baby pink walls and cute succulent arrangements. I headed to the register and their Holy Menu was very simple, so it didn't take me long to decide what I wanted. I ordered a Matcha Latte and a gluten dairy free Matcha Donut. The Matcha Donut is brought in every morning from Coronado's Gluten Free Pantry and it was yummy.
It was mid morning and a bit busy, so it took a minute for them to make my order. You would think that they would just hand me the donut, but they artfully dust each order with matcha powder with one of their signature words. It was so darn cute.
Growing up in Japan, green tea was a normal beverage that I drank all the time. Quite often, I find that green tea beverages in the States are sweet. I am not accustomed to drinking green tea with sugar, so it's nice to be able to find a place that makes green tea without it. When I received my matcha latte, I was so pleased that it was sugarless. Don't worry, if you want sugar in your drinks they provide Truvia sugar packets.
I stayed for a couple of hours chatting with my friend and it remained pretty busy the entire time we were there. I could have stayed longer, but needed to move my car anyways since free street parking was only two hours. It's such a lovely spot and they also provide free wifi for those of you who want to get some work done.
I'll definitely be heading back to this matcha heaven. Next time I'll probably try the Matcha Chia Seed Pudding. It sounds so healthy!
