We only had a few days in London and stopping by Peggy Porschen Cakes was a must. If you’re on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve seen this cute pink cafe on your feed at least once.  We’re suckers for anything cute and Peggy Porschen definitely nails it. It’s one of the most girliest cafes out there. Not only is their building adorable but their cupcakes are gorgeous.

Peggy Porschen is located in the Belgravia district, which is one of the wealthiest districts in the world. It opened in 2010 and is headed by award-winning cake designer, Peggy Porschen. She has an impressive client list including Kate Moss, Elton John, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Everyone is always amazed by her edible works of art.

We used the subway and got off at Victoria Station and it was an easy 8 minute walk from there. As we were walking down Elizabeth Street, we walked by another popular bakery store, Dominique Ansel Bakery, known for their famous cronuts. We also walked by the Peggy Porschen Cakes Academy. We didn’t even know that Peggy Porschen had an academy but apparently it opened in 2011 and is London’s first cookery school entirely dedicated to baking, cake decorating and sugar craft.

We have seen plenty of Peggy Porschen pictures on Instagram but it’s mostly of the pink building with the matching pink tables outdoors and not the cafe itself indoors. We wanted the whole experience so we arrived at the cafe right before they opened to get a prime spot by the window. The staff probably thought we were crazy peeking indoors trying to see what it was like before it opened.

The inside of the cafe is just as cute as the outdoors. Again, everything is pink and white and their menus are adorable. It’s a small cafe with five tables and if you get there early enough, you’ll get a great table by the window like we did. Or if the weather’s nice outside, you can always enjoy the outdoors too.

The entire cafe is decorated with beautiful flowers and the shelves were lined with Peggy Porschen goods, boxes, cookies and other baked items. Right in front is the register and display of Peggy Porschen cakes and cupcakes. Everything looked so good that it was hard to decide but we ended up choosing the Summer Special Editions. By the way, we were in London end of May and they were already celebrating summer, which was pretty funny because for us the temperatures felt like Fall.

We ordered the Summer Berries & Fleus Cupcake and Eton Mess & Fleus Cupcake along with Americano coffee and Floral Rose Tea. The Summer Berries & Fleus Cupcake was made with buttermilk and mixed berries sponge filled with summer berry compote and topped with lilac berry buttercream, fresh summer berries, raspberry crunch and edible blossom. The Eton Mess & Fleurs Cupcake featured vanilla sponge filled with strawberry jam and topped with vanilla buttercream before being finished with strawberry sauce, a fresh strawberry, a meringue kiss and petal confetti. A lot going on in these cupcakes!

Candy’s tea came out in a cute pink teapot and we felt like we were in some fairytale in a Disney movie because it was so darn cute. As for the taste, it was good but not the “best cupcakes in the world” as Vanity Fair once stated. The presentation was beautiful but we felt the cake was a bit dry and the flavors were very average. We have definitely had better cupcakes and think that Frost Me Bakery in San Diego had more impressive flavors.

Note that these cupcakes are not cheap. Our summer edition cupcakes cost £6.75 each, which is about $8.50 USD! Definitely the most expensive cupcake we’ve ever had. Their classic cupcakes are £5.40 each, which is $6.80 USD. Our total bill with the tea and coffee was £23.18 (~$30 USD) with the service charge. In London, just about every cafe and restaurant charges a service fee, which is basically a tip. No wonder everyone just takes a picture by the cute building and then leaves.

Although we weren’t impressed with their cupcakes, we think it’s still worth it to stop by Peggy Porschen. They have so many other cakes, cupcakes and pastries to choose from and we may have just gotten the wrong cupcakes to taste. Their classic cupcakes like the Chocolate Heaven and Salted Caramel have won the Great Taste Award. Or you can just stop by and snap that Instagram photo. We saw several people doing just that while we were dining there.
