Best Hidden Gem at 801 E. Main St. in Lakeland, Florida
/We were really looking forward to visiting this hidden gem and have been following 801 E. Main's journey from their humble beginnings. Robyn, the owner, has been frying up her famous New Orlean's style beignets from her farmer's market stand, The Poor Porker, for years and has since expanded to an amazing eclectic space at. 801 E. Main St.
801 E. Main St. is an amazing oasis that houses The Poor Porker, Bearcat & Big 6 Trading Post, and Calexico. Everywhere you look, there is so much attention to detail from the arrangement of succulents to the amazing teepee at the center of her oasis. Robyn sees beauty in everything and can repurpose just about anything.
The Poor Porker - Beignets & Coffee
The Poor Porker is where she continues to serve made-to-order beignets and delicious Campfire Coffee. Every topping on her beignets are homemade and is a beautiful powdery bliss. The Campfire Coffee was just as amazing.
The Campfire Coffee is a freshly roasted fair trade organic coffee that she then blends with her own smoked chicory. Who knew so much detail can be put into coffee! Crystal and I absolutely loved it. Not too sweet, which was great since the beignets are on the sweeter side. It balances out the taste buds perfectly.
Bearcat & Big 6 Trading Post - The Shop
Bearcat & Big 6 Trading Post is a little shop that is filled with amazing vintage finds and other fun goodies from locals. I don't know if you noticed Robyn's style, but you would think that she is a celebrity stylist. Her style is so effortlessly unique and she is always wearing something that is a one-of-a-kind. I don't' even know how she has time to find all this vintage goodness, but she does! She's also a huge reader and we found these cute fun travel books in there.
Calexico - The Bar
At Calexico, you can find an awesome wine and beer selection and even Soju! In the evenings they have live bands and even Karaoke nights, so don't worry if you thought that this spot was only open during the day. If you are hoping that a food menu is coming, your wait won't be much longer. A food menu is in the works and should be ready to serve in the very near future. We got a glimpse of the menu and everything sounded fresh and amazing. We can't wait to go back and try all the goodness.
We chatted with Robyn and also had the pleasure of meeting Giovanna and Wads. She is a beautiful woman inside and out and sticks true to her brand. She believes that anyone is capable of doing what they put their minds to and her 801 E. Main oasis is a true testament to that. She started this business with just $300 and now has eight employees and a beautiful space that she shares with friends and family.
