Vasquez Rocks is a fun and unique stop if you are looking for safe outdoor experiences with your pets. It’s the perfect place to witness and climb unique rock formations without having to endure a rigorous trek.

Zooey absolutely loved running and jumping around on the rocks and was having a blast here. There are also trails that don’t involve rock climbing.

We spent a weekend in Long Beach and Rosie’s Dog Beach was just a couple of miles away from the super pet-friendly hotel we were staying at.

When we first started Googling off-leash beaches in the Los Angeles area, Rosie’s Dog Beach was always at the top of the search results. It’s also currently the only legal off-leash dog beach in LA county.

This beach has a large parking, restrooms, and there was plenty of room for the pups to run around.

Both our pups love agility, so when we discovered a park with an agility course, we had to take Zooey and Kuma. The park is sectioned off into three areas: Small Dogs, Large Dogs, and Timid Dogs.

All three areas are separated by chain-linked fencing and all three had their own agility course. The Large Dog section is massive with plenty of space for the dogs to run around and chairs and picnic tables for the humans.

There is a large dedicated parking lot and it’s pretty packed during peak hours.

There is a lot to see and do on Hollywood Boulevard and luckily, some of them are dog-friendly. It doesn’t cost anything to stroll around and check out the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Yes, it’s a very touristy thing to do, but if it’s your first time in LA, it’s just one of those things you want to tick off your list.

You also might be surprised to know that some of the guided tours are also pet-friendly. We were approached to hop on one of those tour vans and were surprised that they allowed dogs. We politely declined, since we weren’t sure Zooey could handle an hour and a half just sitting.

If you want to get a view of the Hollywood sign, you can get a nice view from the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex where some stores are pet-friendly.

A lot of people have asked me how to get to the famous Hollywood sign and I have never hiked to it myself, but have a few friends who have. Apparently, it’s quite the hike, so I’ve never attempted it.

The next best place to get up close to the sign is Lake Hollywood Park. It’s a gorgeous pet-friendly park with a large open grassy area for a nice picnic with the Hollywood sign in the distance.

Street parking is on a hill, so be prepared to parallel park either downhill or uphill.

If you go up the hill, just a short distance, you’ll get another view of the Hollywood sign. We saw many people here taking pictures, but we personally like the angle from down below where the park is.

Cherry Canyon Park is in the San Rafael Hills which is about 15 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. The park has many trails, including trails for horses and mountain bikers.

This hike provides a great panoramic view of the San Gabriel Valley. Our favorite trail is Owl Trail which is a peaceful and shaded dirt trail. Your shoes and your pup’s paws will definitely get dusty.

Hahamongna Watershed Park has been Candy and Zooey’s go-to park for the past couple of years. The park is beautifully maintained with plenty of facilities which include a 24-hole Frisbee golf course, numerous picnic areas, barbecue pits, an athletic field, hiking trails, and restrooms.

This is a great place to walk if you want to feel like you are in the wilderness without leaving the city. Beautiful trees, golden light, mountain views, and sparse crowds make this a fantastic place to take your pups.

Practicing agility with the dogs at Fletcher Dog Park

Practicing agility with the dogs at Fletcher Dog Park

This park is fairly new and just had its grand opening in October 2020. We saw photos online that this dog park had an agility course and some of the agility equipment was different from the Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park.

The park has a small dog (under 35lbs) and a big dog area (35lbs+) dogs; however, the small dog side was closed (due to reseeding the grass) while we were there.

We were so bummed because the teeter base agility (seesaw) was on that side. The big dog side had different agility items and the dogs enjoyed them, but it was pretty muddy on the day we visited.

There are some cute bone-shaped benches and even a shaded bench area for humans. We love that this park provides grass for the pups, but it’s definitely not easy to maintain.

The park is quite secluded with one side being the freeway and the other side has a train track. There is also a basketball court and children’s playground which is pretty well-lit when it starts to get dark.

When Candy was living in West Hollywood, she took friends who were visiting from out of town to this very popular hiking spot. It’s located right in the middle of the city and you can get great views with just a few minutes of walking.

There are several trails to choose from and they are all rated moderate. You will also spot a lot of dogs at Runyon Canyon. It’s definitely the most dogs we’ve seen on a trail in Los Angeles. Despite its popularity, there are no bathroom facilities and only street parking is available.

The Grove has been in Los Angeles since 2002 and it’s one of those places that all the locals know about. Candy has been to The Grove on numerous occasions for birthday parties, store events, dining, movie premieres, and more.

The Grove offers a great selection of restaurants, a variety of retailers, and some pop-up stores. It’s great that you can enjoy all of this with your main furry squeeze. There is a small grassy area where you can sit down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of The Grove.

If you drive north of downtown and follow the Angeles Crest Highway, you’ll find yourself driving up through the Angeles National Forest. It’s such a beautiful drive with several vista points along the way where you can stop and enjoy the views of Los Angeles. It’s also the perfect spot to enjoy a snow day with your pups.

As soon as we heard there was snow (and when the roads were clear), we made the short drive up Angeles Crest Highway and within 30-minutes, we were throwing snowballs and trekking through several inches of snow. We found the best spot to enjoy the snow was at Red Box Picnic Area.

12. Healthy Spot

Multiple locations throughout Southern California (get the complete list on their website)

Healthy Spot is a pet store; however, they hold some free social events throughout the year that are fun for both humans and pets. At the first social event I attended, I was pleasantly surprised with their creative dog treat menu. It’s definitely not your average display of dog treats and we (well especially the humans) loved it.

The pups also received a gift bag, puppatinis, and tons of treats to try. There were plenty of snacks and drinks for both humans and dogs. There was even a holiday-themed photo booth.

To top it off, they threw in raffle tickets inside the gift bags for a chance to win some amazing prizes. The social events are a great way to meet other dog owners and it also gives your fur baby a chance to try and test out new foods.

Healthy Spot provides an array of services, but my favorite has been their social events. It’s such a great way for both you and your pup to meet the people in your community while munching on yummy treats. Every social event is different, so it’s best to sign up for their newsletter to get the details on upcoming events.
