If it’s your first time visiting Los Angeles, you’ve probably got Hollywood on your list of places to visit. There is a lot to see and do in Hollywood and luckily, there are plenty of things to explore with your pup.

1. Hollywood Walk of Fame

Probably one of the most famous sidewalks in the world is the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. All along Hollywood Boulevard, you can gaze down at your feet and see if you know the name of the star you are standing on.

Just how many stars are there? As of now, there are 2,690 stars and counting. If you are looking for a specific star, you’ll need to look at the star map online beforehand. Zooey and Kuma didn’t care so much for the stars, but their senses were definitely enjoying all the smells in Hollywood.

2. Lake Hollywood Park

A lot of people have asked me how to get to the famous Hollywood sign and I have never hiked to it myself, but have a few friends who have.

Apparently, it’s quite the hike, so I’ve never attempted it. The next best place to get up close to the sign is Lake Hollywood Park.

It’s a gorgeous pet-friendly park with a large open grassy area for a nice picnic with the Hollywood sign in the distance.

Street parking is on a hill, so be prepared to parallel park either downhill or uphill.

If you go up the hill, just a short distance, you’ll get another view of the Hollywood sign. We saw many people here taking pictures, but we personally like the angle from down below where the park is.

3. Hollywood Tours

You also might be surprised to know that some of the bus/van tours are pet-friendly. If you look like a tourist, don’t be surprised if you get approached by one (or two or three) of the tour guides.

We didn’t think we looked like tourists, but we were approached to hop on one of the van tours and were surprised that they allowed dogs.

We politely declined since Zooey probably couldn’t handle an hour and a half of just sitting.

We’re not sure if all the tours offer this, but if you’re into these types of tours and want to take your pup, it’s definitely an option with some of the tours.

4. Chinese Theatre

6925 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028 (MAP)

As you are walking along Hollywood Boulevard, it’s hard to miss the Chinese Theater. This is where the big Hollywood stars flock to for those prominent red carpet movie premieres and special events.

When Candy was living in West Hollywood, you knew when there was a big event going down as the streets start to get rerouted and the barricades start to go up in preparation for a big event.

On normal days, you can look at the theatre up close or even purchase tickets for a private tour. We’re not sure if they allow pets on private tours, but it wouldn’t surprise us if they did.

5. Hollywood & Highland

If you want to get a clear view of the Hollywood sign, you can get a fantastic one from the Hollywood & Highland shopping center where some of the stores are pet-friendly.

We walked by Hot Topic with the dogs and one of the friendly sales associates came out to let us know that pets are more than welcome in their store.

The shopping center is an open-air space and the center’s designer made it a point to feature the distant Hollywood Sign as the centerpiece of the complex.

There is also a nice courtyard with tables, so you can relax here with your pet outdoors. If there’s two of you with the dogs, one person can grab something to eat at one of the many restaurants located here and then eat together in the courtyard.

6. Runyon Canyon

Less than 2 miles away from Hollywood Boulevard, you and your pup can enjoy a fun and moderate hike with the locals. It’s located right in the middle of the city and you can get great views of Los Angeles.

There are several trails to choose from and they are all rated moderate. You will also spot a lot of dogs at Runyon Canyon.
