We have a bucket list of places we want to visit and Prada Marfa has been on our list for some time now. It’s a unique art installation located along U.S. Route 90 in Jeff Davis County, Texas.

Since we were making a cross-country road trip from California to Florida it was the perfect time to check this off our list. After our visit, we headed to our accommodation at the Hotel Saint George, which was only thirty minutes away.

FIRST IMPRESSION

We arrived in the early afternoon and the hotel was really easy to spot in town. Marfa, Texas is a desert city with a population of less than two thousand and is known to be an artsy town. There wasn’t a dedicated hotel entrance driveway, so we found a parking spot on the street next to the hotel.

CHECK-IN

Once we found the check-in counter (which was a little confusing), it didn’t take long to get the key to our room. The front desk wasn’t very inviting and it was difficult to understand the receptionist because she mumbled everything in a very low tone.

We asked her about parking for the hotel and she mumbled a couple of times about a red brick parking spot, but after asking a few times and not grasping what she was saying, we just nodded that we understood.

We later found out on their website that they have complimentary parking in a private lot next to the hotel. Street parking was also plentiful.

Bedroom

We requested a room away from the elevator but ended up with a room right next to the elevator. Kuma reacts to noise from people in the hallways, so this is why we request rooms away from the elevator. We tested to see if we could hear noises from the hallway and luckily it was pretty quiet, so we didn’t need to ask to switch rooms.

The room was very spacious and sleek with a spacious entryway. The one thing we really appreciated in this room was the amount of storage space there was. Since we were on a week-long road trip, we had several bags, and being able to place everything in open storage with plenty of shelves and hangers was perfect.

We both had our own queen size bed and the room had a great view of Marfa. The decor was very modern and there were plenty of USB outlets on our bedside tables. The room came with complimentary Wi-Fi and there was an expansive workspace with two chairs.

We thought it was interesting that the room was equipped with both an iron and a clothing steamer. There was an in-room safe as well as a refrigerator that was stocked with drinks. We didn’t see a single-serve coffee maker, but their website says that it is available upon request.

Next to the bed, there was a note with a set of complimentary earplugs. The note warned us that it might be loud due to a train that is a part of Marfa’s history. We never heard the trains, but it was a nice gesture to forewarn us of the possible noise.

Bathroom

Just like the bedroom, the bathroom was spacious with a separate shower and toilet area. The toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, and soap from Aēsop, which is a fantastic skincare brand.

We really liked the spa robes and the room slippers. Usually, hotel slippers are flimsy with barely any padding, but these were the opposite of that. They were high-quality guest slippers.

The bathroom was stocked with plenty of white towels and one black towel. It’s the first time we’ve stayed at a hotel that had a towel labeled specifically for makeup.

We always love a bathroom that’s nice and bright and we appreciated that they provided plenty of makeup removal wipes. The counter space was a little tight for both of our toiletries, but we moved some things around and made it work.

ON-SITE RESTAURANT: LAVENTURE

After we got settled into our room, we were starving so we headed downstairs to dine at their bar. The atmosphere is inviting and the bartenders were very friendly. We both ordered the Grilled Chicken Penne Alla Vodka entrees and we were quite surprised at how large the portions were.

We definitely could have shared a meal since we both had plenty of leftovers. Our entrees were pretty expensive ($25), so we were expecting something that left us wanting more, but the flavors were pretty average. On the other hand, their cocktails were excellent.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

A max of two pets per room is permitted (dogs must be under 80 pounds) and there is a $30 pet fee per day. Dog beds or bowls are not provided, so make sure to bring all your pet necessities. There wasn’t a dedicated pet-relief area, but there were patches of grass around the hotel where Kuma was able to relieve herself.

LOCATION

Marfa is a unique town that we were passing through on our road trip and only stayed here one night. We chose this specific stop since it was close to the Prada Marfa art installation that we wanted to visit.

There is a really nice coffee shop nearby called The Sentinel that we wanted to check out, but unfortunately, they were closed on the day we were visiting.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The room was fantastic and we woke up to an amazing sunrise with bright red and orange skies. We weren’t expecting that, so it was such a nice surprise. The hospitality was average, but we were happy to get a great night’s rest since we had a long drive the next day to Waco, Texas.
