I was in the market for a reliable and convenient carry-on suitcase for my international trip to Japan and there were several factors I needed to consider. The most crucial thing for me was the size and weight restriction since the airline I was flying (Singapore Airlines) had a max weight limit of just 15 pounds.

Luckily, I found the perfect carry-on suitcase from Quince and it was finally back in stock. Quince’s carry-on hard shell suitcase checked all the boxes I was looking for in a travel companion.

1. Lightweight & Durable

I’ve flown to Japan on various airlines like United, Delta, JAL, etc., and never had issues with my carry-on luggage being overweight since these airlines never checked the weight of my bag. In my experience, these airlines only cared about the size and not so much the weight.

I recently started flying with Singapore Airlines to Japan (since they have fantastic premium economy rates), but they are very strict with their carry-on baggage weight. This forced me to look for a new carry-on suitcase that was lightweight. The total weight of the Quince carry-on suitcase is an impressive 6.7 lbs, which is significantly lighter than my aluminum Away suitcase which weighs over 10 lbs.

Quince’s carry-on suitcase is ultra-light and is also made with a super sturdy polycarbonate shell, which makes it very durable as well. I travel a ton, so having a suitcase that will withstand the rigors of travel is a must for me.

2. Practical Interior Organization

I’m the type that likes to have my essentials neatly organized and easily accessible throughout my trip. Quince’s carry-on suitcase is equipped with an interior compression system to maximize space, which is a huge help when I am trying to squeeze in as many outfits as possible.

On the opposite side, there is a fully zipped compartment where I can pack my things like shoes, flat iron, and other miscellaneous items. Having a zipped compartment keeps my travel items from falling out when I open the bag.

There is also a mesh pocket for additional storage and this is where I like to put my Bandolier straps.

3. Thoughtful Luxe Features

Duster
When my suitcase arrived in the mail, it was beautifully packaged and it even came with a duster. It’s nice to have a duster for my bags when I am not using them so it doesn’t collect dust while it is sitting in my closet.

Removable Laundry Bag
I like to keep my dirty travel clothes separate from my clean ones, so the laundry bag is a great feature.

Magic Eraser
It was a nice surprise to see that there was a magic eraser included inside the suitcase. I haven’t had to use it yet, but it’s there when I need to erase any scuffs my bag might endure.

TSA-Approved Lock
Having a lock built into the bag is a huge plus for me. I used to have suitcases that didn’t have this feature so I would have to purchase separate locks for it. I can’t tell you how stressful it was having to remember where the keys to the lock were or making sure I didn’t lose it during my trip.

4. Surprisingly Roomy

The interior is well-designed, simple, sleek, and offers a TON of room. It has a capacity of 48L, whereas my Away carry-on suitcase is only 35L. It can hold between 6-9 outfits depending on the season you are packing for. It’s perfect for those in-between-length getaways.

I was a tad worried that the bag may not meet the carry-on luggage requirement since it appeared larger than my other one. I actually ended up measuring it myself just to make sure I was within the required dimensions.

The external dimension including wheels was 22.8" H x 15.6" W x 9.8" D and it met the requirement. This dimension meets the requirement for most major airlines and fits in the overhead bins.

5. 360° Spinner Wheels

The Japanese crafted Hinamoto 360-degree wheels provide reliability, quality, and endurance. I think the wheels on a suitcase are a very under-appreciated feature that we tend to overlook.

Having four wheels is life-changing if you’ve ever had to deal with two-wheeled suitcases. There’s nothing worse than running through the airport for your flight only to have to keep stopping to readjust the wheels of your suitcase.

I took my Quince carry-on suitcase all over Tokyo and the wheels did not fail me. From hopping on trains and going up and down escalators, these wheels provided an ultra-smooth ride.

6. Smooth Gliding Telescopic Handle

Another key component of a functional suitcase is the handle. The handle is easy to grasp and has a soft rubber ergonomic handle. The handle lifts and collapses with ease and I never had an issue with it getting jammed.

7. Sleek & Attractive

Functionality is obviously a priority, but who doesn’t want an attractive bag as well? I love the minimalistic simple design and the pretty neutral color.

Since I rarely check in my carry-on luggage, I wanted a soft feminine color and oatmeal was perfect. It’s technically tan on their website, but I prefer to call it oatmeal.

8. Competitive Price

So with all these fantastic features, you would assume the cost is going to be similar to its competitors, right? Nope. Even though this suitcase looks and feels like $300, it is very affordable compared to other popular brands.

At $130, it’s just as nice as its competitors but for a fraction of the price. It’s no wonder they keep selling out. Make sure to join their waitlist because they frequently restock.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard to find any faults with this suitcase, but If there was one thing I could change, it would be the shape of the zipper tabs. It’s too skinny and has a tendency to get caught in between the zipper lining. However, with all the other bells and whistles this carry-on provides, I can live with the skinny zipper tabs.

Before this, I had only purchased clothing from Quince, and am happy to have expanded to their travel products. Not only was the price point very competitive, but it turned out to be a sturdy and reliable travel companion.

I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for an affordable carry-on that looks expensive and holds a lot of items.
